Project Background: When Side Cameras Are Not Enough

Existing Setup and Its Limitations

In the original configuration, the client was using a 47-inch vertical display with a camera mounted on the right side of the screen.
The system worked as intended: the camera captured users standing in front of the display, and virtual elements were overlaid in real time based on movement.

However, one issue became increasingly obvious during testing.

Because the camera was positioned on the side, users were never captured from a true frontal angle. This caused alignment inconsistencies and reduced realism—particularly noticeable in experiences involving facial positioning, body symmetry, or precise motion tracking.

To improve the overall experience, the client wanted to place the camera directly behind the display, facing the user head-on.
This introduced several clear technical requirements:

  • The display must remain bright and clearly visible from the user’s side

  • The rear side must be transparent enough for accurate camera capture

  • The screen must support vertical installation

  • The minimum size requirement was 55 inches

Not all transparent display technologies can meet these conditions at the same time.
